The other groups implemented their methods on us, and also they were
very nice and interesting. Even though there were more than one group and one
method still we worked together as one big group. I believe most of us have some
ideas about those methods before we attend this program, but implementing them
on us was very helpful and it felt as if it was the first time we study such
methods.
Personally, I will try to implement those methods whenever I need so
when I go back home. I think my students
will like them and might benefit more out of them. It is really not about
learning something new, but it is about implementing what have been taught. I
have tested being a student who has a lot of fun while learning something new.
I want my students to have such enjoyment I had in that workshop.

ReplyDeleteI'm a true believer of having fun while learning, that's why it was good to hear that you enjoyed the workshop.
From other parts of your post I can gather that it was not only fun and games with no purpose, but you actually also learned something! As you mentioned, you have already used collaborative methods, even in this program. Nevertheless, this was the first time you actually run them yourselves (in this program). My question now is, what did you learn by conducting the workshop yourself, instead just
- reading the recipe of the method?
- participating in a workshop using that method, but run by somebody else?
Of all the collaborative methods you have encountered sofar, which is your personal favorite and why?- Irmeli
I think there were two parts of practicing the collaborative methods that day. First, it was practicing it from the teacher side when our group was applying the cross-over method. It really was fun and in the same time was a little hard to control a group of teachers. I wish it will be easier to control my students when I apply such methods. Second, I enjoyed being in the student side where I had to practice the other's group methods. Again it was fun to practice new way of learning methods.
ReplyDeleteTrue, you had the two roles you mention. I believe it is always good to experience the method in the student role first. When you get the feeling yourself that yes, this seems to work, then it is easier to try and adopt the method in your own teaching. However, it's different to use the same method as a teacher! There are many questions that you don't even realize in the student role. Like: how should I make the teams? How long time is needed for each stage? What materials do I have to take with me? And what I think is the most important: how are the results documented, distributed and further processed?
